Performing Arts takes stage at St Joseph!
In August of 2012, St Joseph founded a performing arts program designed to offer students an opportunity to step into the spotlight. In our first year, we received a charter from the International Junior Thespian Society (a member of the Educational Theatre Association). Our 18 member troupe has competed both at the district and state level, having achieved several "Excellent", and "Superior" awards.
This year, in addition to the monologues and one acts that the Thespian Troupe performs at the district and state levels, we have produced programs in December such as "Dear Edwina" and "A Carol for Christmas" and spring performances such as "House of Usher" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." In our first year we produced three plays: a series of comedic one acts, a stomping Christmas extravaganza, and the classic Peter Pan. Our students performed brilliantly in all three!
Performing Arts at St. Joseph introduces students to stage work in storytelling, pantomime, script work and script writing, and characterization. Exposure to the arts improves critical thinking skills, and teaches us how to interact with others and speak in front of an audience - great skill sets for our children's future.
Take a Bow!
St. Joseph, Troupe 89095 traveled across the state to attend the Florida Junior Thespian Conference in Melbourne, February 6th and 7th, 2016. More than 90 schools (approximately 4000 students) participated in over 1100 individual events. Our students performed in 6 category assessments, and earned five medal wins (four Excellent and one Superior!)
